DONALD EKONG LIBRARY WEEKLY REPORT
Tuesday 13th – Friday 16th June 2023

  1. The American Corner, Port Harcourt, carried out the Education-USA programme on Wednesday,14th June 2023, at the University of Port Harcourt. The programme provided information to participants on undergraduate and postgraduate admission processes and scholarship opportunities in the United States of America. The programme attracted 56 participants from the Departments of Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry, Human Kinetics, Health Education, Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Library and Information Science, Mechatronics Engineering, Agric Economics and Extension, Crop and Soil Science, Banking and Finance, Accounting, Computing Science, and Theatre and Film Studies. Students of other disciplines are encouraged to engage.
  1. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduates) and the Research Commons (for postgraduates) sections on the first floor of the Library are open to those who wish to access the Library’s electronic resources using the ICT facilities in the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is open to faculty members.
  1. The Library received an update on its Population Reference Bureau Database, https://www.prb.org/, which provides information on population, health, environment and related disciplines to faculty members and other researchers registered in Donald Ekong Library.
  1. Weekly statistics of the patronage of Donald Ekong Library showed a 6% decrease from 1,823 users in the previous week to 1,748 users in the current week. Knowledge is power, and information is vital to its acquisition. Therefore, staff and students are encouraged to regularly seek information using Donald Ekong Library learning resources.
