DONALD E. U. EKONG CELEBRATES 2023 INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

Since 8 September 1967, UNESCO has celebrated International Literacy Day (ILD) annually to raise awareness of the importance of literacy for individuals in human rights and human dignity and to promote the literacy agenda for peaceful and sustainable coexistence in the global community. The theme of the 2023 celebration edition is ‘Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition: Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies’.

In line with this worldwide annual celebration, Donald E. U. Ekong Library celebrates this year’s ILD under the theme: “Empowering the Nigerian Youths through Digital Literacy: Bridging the Gap between Virtual and Physical Environment.” This observance is intended to promote literacy as an essential component of the digital age that will enable youths to harness great ideas, acquire knowledge and connect with global communities for positive and lasting change.

Donald Ekong Library is committed to the empowerment of students of the University of Port Harcourt in particular and youths in general by providing physical books that are current and modern tools for adequate and practical digital literacy that will nurture the next generation of Nigerian leaders and pave the way to a brighter and more connected future.

To mark the 2023 ILD, Donald E. U. Ekong Library will donate books to selected primary and secondary schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

Happy International Literacy Day, everyone! 📚🌍
