DONALD E. U. EKONG LIBRARY COMBINED WEEKLY REPORT 24TH AUGUST TO 4TH SEPTEMBER, 2026

24th – 28th August 2026

1. On Thursday, 27th August 2026, the Office of the University Librarian received a copy of a book donated by Abdurrahman Olayemi Bello Onifade:
   Abdurrahman, O. B. O. (2017). Student Unionism in Nigeria: Challenges and Strategies. Ibadan University Press.
2. During the week, the Donald E. U. Ekong Library also acquired daily issues of national newspapers to keep staff and students informed on local and global events. Titles received include: The Guardian, Daily Sun, Punch, Vanguard, Telegraph, Business Day, and This Day. These issues were made available at the Reference Unit.
3. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the e-resources of the library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory, located on the second floor of the library, offers internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
4. The library has acquired MATLAB. MATLAB (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that includes matrix manipulation and plotting functions, data analysis, algorithm implementation, user interface creation, and interaction with programs written in other languages.
5. The weekly statistics indicated a 10.79% decrease in patronage, with the number of users decreasing from 2,792 in the previous week to 1,792 in the current week.
6. The Library has received updated content in the SpringerLink Database (https://www.springernature.com/gp). This database helps publish robust and insightful research, supports the development of novel areas of knowledge, and makes information accessible globally.
7. The Library is receiving updated content on the JSTOR Database (https://www.jstor.org). This database provides registered researchers with informative materials spanning the sciences, social sciences, arts, education, technology, law, and other research-related disciplines.
8. The library has received updated content on the AGORA database (https://www.fao.org/agora/en/). This database provides registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, audiovisual materials, and other collections focused on agriculture and related disciplines.
9. The Library has received an update of its Scopus Database (https://www.scopus.com/home.uri). This database provides registered faculty members and researchers with the most extensive database of abstracts and cited references for peer-reviewed literature and information materials across disciplines.

31st August – 4th September 2026

1. On Friday, 4th September 2026, the Donald E. U. Ekong Library, in collaboration with the America Corner Space, organized an indoor security master class training titled “Hikvision AIoT Products for Physical Security.” Mr. Elvis Nwotezi facilitated the training, which covered various physical security solutions including CCTV, access control systems, intercom systems, fire alarms, and networking. Participants gained practical knowledge and a better understanding of modern security technologies and their applications. The training aimed to equip staff and students with the knowledge needed to promote a smarter and safer environment. Overall, the programme was informative and beneficial, as it increased participants’ awareness of modern physical security solutions and their relevance to safety.
