  1. During the week, the Donald E. U. Ekong Library acquired daily issues of national newspapers to keep staff and students informed on local and global events. Titles received include: The Guardian, Daily Sun, Punch, Vanguard, Telegraph, Business Day, and This Day. These issues were made available at the Reference Unit.
  2. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the e-resources of the library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory, located on the second floor of the library, offers internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
  3. The library has acquired MATLAB. MATLAB (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that includes matrix manipulation and plotting functions, data analysis, algorithm implementation, user interface creation, and interaction with programs written in other languages.
  4. The weekly statistics indicated a 15.08% decrease in patronage, with the number of users decreasing from 3241 in the previous week to 2472 in the current week.
  5. The Library has received updated content in the SpringerLink Database (https://www.springernature.com/gp). This data helps publish robust and insightful research, supports the development of novel areas of knowledge, and makes information accessible globally.

30th March – 2nd APRIL 2026

  1. On Monday, March 30th, 2026, the University of Port Harcourt received a distribution of TEDFund-sponsored books for the beneficiary institutions, covering all subjects across various departments in the university.
  2. On Tuesday, 31st March 2026, the library continued its Orientation Program for Year One students. The exercise introduced students from the Faculty of Management Sciences to the resources, services, and facilities of the Donald E. U. Ekong Library. The following departments were oriented:

    3. Hospitality Management and Tourism
    4. Accounting
    5. Finance and Banking
  3. On Wednesday, 1st April 2026, the orientation program continued with students from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences. The departments oriented include:

  3. On Thursday, 4 June 2026, the Donald E. U. Ekong Library held its 36th Convocation Library Exhibition in the Library Exhibition Hall. The exhibition themed ‘The Library as a Hub of Academic Excellence’ was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, with and other principal officers in attendance. The exhibited materials included but not excluded to university historical video slides, learning materials, information system objects, special materials from the bindery, American Corner Port Harcourt, Chinese Window, and pictures of principal officers from inception to present, among others. The exhibitioner, the University Librarian, Prof. Helen U. Emasealu explained the exhibited resources, and exalted the relevance of academic historical legacy to the university community.
