DONALD E.U. EKONG LIBRARY WEEKLY REPORT
6TH – 10TH JANUARY   2025

  1. On Monday, 6th January 2025, the University of Port Harcourt resumed academic and administrative activities after embarking on Christmas and New Year Holidays.
  2. On Tuesday, 7th January 2025, the office of the University Librarian received a copy of a book from Mr. Charles Ogan titled 100 Years of Saint Peters Cathedral Church Building, Okrika (1923-2023).
  3. On Thursday, 9th January 2025, the office of the University Librarian received a copy of a book from Professor Oyeronke Olademo titled Journal of Religious and Peace Studies Volume 6, No 2, October 2024.
  4. The statistics for the week indicate six hundred and eighty-three (683) patrons and two hundred and sixty-seven (267) consulted materials.
  5. Donald E.U. Ekong Library (the Central Library) maintained two shifts, from 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and 9.00 a.m. -5.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
  6. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the e-resources of the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the Library’s second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
  7. The Library has received updated content on the AGORA database. https://www.fao.org/agora/en/. This database furnishes registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centred on agriculture and its related disciplines.
  8. The Library has also received updated content on the BioOne database. https://bioone.org/. This database provides registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, and multimedia collections on biological sciences and their related disciplines.
  9. The Library has also benefitted immensely from the updated content of the AJOL database. https://www.ajol.info/index.php/ajol. This data is credited as one of the world’s largest databases housing peer-viewed African-published scholarly works in various disciplines for registered researchers and staff.
  10. The Library has acquired MatLab. The MaTrics Laboratory (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that indicates matric manipulating and plotting functions-abc data, implementing algorithms, creating users, and interacting with programmes written in other languages.

 

13th – 17th January 2025

  1. On Friday, 17th January 2025, the office of the University Librarian received the following book donations:
      • Statutory Academic Ceremonies and Events: A Guide for Nigerian Universities. Nigeria, 2024, University of Port Harcourt Press Limited. Received from Dr. Dorcas D. Otto (1 copy).
      • Student Unionism in Nigeria: Challenges and Strategies, 2017, Ibadan University Press received from A. B. Onifade (1 copy).
      • Paediatrics and Child Health in Tropical Region, 3rd Edition. 2016, Nigeria, Educational Printing and Publishing received from Kanu E. O. Nkanginieme. (1 copy).
  1. On the same day, Friday, 17th January 2025, the following journals were received from Prof. Braimoh Omoigberai Bashiru (1 copy).
      • Nigerian Journal of Dental Research, Volume 8, Issue 1. January – June 2023. Nigeria, School of Dentistry, College of Medical Science (2 copies).
      • Journal of Dental Research, Volume 8, Issue 2. July-December 2023. Nigeria, School of Dentistry, College of Medical Science (2 copies).
      • African Journal of Oral Health, Volume 2, Number 2. 2024, Nigeria, International Association for Dental Research, Nigerian Division (1 copy).
  1. The statistics for the week indicate a 167.2% increase in patronage from six hundred and eighty-three (683) registered users to one thousand, eight hundred and twenty-five (1,825) users in the week under review.
  2. Donald E.U. Ekong Library, the Central Library, maintained two shifts from 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
  3. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the eresources of the Library.   5. The Library has received an update of its Scopus Database with the new content.
