DONALD EKONG LIBRARY BI-WEEKLY REPORT
25TH – 29TH November & 2nd – 6th December 2024
- On Monday, November 25, 2024, accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor Nelson Akpotu arrived at the University Librarian’s office of the University of Port Harcourt for evaluation of the following University programmes: Education Chemistry, Education Biology, Education Computer Science and Education Physics.
- On the same day, Monday, November 25, 2024, another National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team led by Professor Josephine N. Okoli and Professor Yunusa O. Aremu came for the Education Geography and Education Economics; and Education Social Studies, Sports and Exercise (Human Kinetics), respectively. Also, French programme was evaluated by NUC teams led by Professor A.O. Pejoja.
- On Thursday, November 28, 2024, a team from NUC, led by Professor Bajor Enaule, came to the Library for the accreditation of the University’s Fine Arts and Design programme.
- On Friday, November 29, 2024, an NUC accreditation team led by Professor Oyaziwo Aluede came to the Library for accreditation of the University’s Guidance and Counselling/Educational Psychology Programme.
- The NUC team led by Professor Oyaziwo Aluede evaluated the University’s Guidance and Counselling/Educational Psychology programme on Friday, November 24, 2029.
- The weekly statistics from Monday, 25th to Friday, 29th November 2024, show a 23.8% increase in library patronage from six hundred and ten (610) recorded in the previous week to seven hundred and fifty-five (755) recorded in the current week.
- The two shifts, which run from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturdays, were maintained. The Medical Library runs from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and there is a single shift from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
From Monday 2nd December to Friday 6th December 2024:
- The American Corner, Port Harcourt, anchored two programmes on the 3rd & 4th of December 2024:
1st Program: “The Role of Innovation in Fuelling an Equitable and Accessible World.” This program was held to mark the International Day of Persons with Disability, emphasizing the significance of innovation in creating an inclusive society. It recorded an impressive attendance.
2nd Program: “The Weekly Education-USA Orientation Programme”. This program provided information on the ample opportunities for students who wish to advance their academic careers in the United States.
- On Thursday, 5th December 2024, an accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor Olu B. Ajayi-Vincent arrived at the University Librarian’s office of the University of Port Harcourt for accreditation of the Human Kinetics and Health Education Programme of the University.
- The weekly statistics from Monday, 2nd December to Friday, 6th December 2024, show a 24.8% increase in Library patronage from seven hundred and fifty-five (755) recorded in the previous week to nine hundred and forty-two (942) recorded in the current week.
- The two shifts, which run from 8 am to 9 pm on Mondays to Fridays and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturdays, were maintained. The Medical Library runs from 8 am to 7 pm, Mondays to Fridays, and there is a single shift from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
- The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for Postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the eresources of the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the Library’s second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
- The Library has acquired MatLab. The MaTrics Laboratory (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that indicates matric manipulating and plotting functions-abc data, implementing algorithms, creating users, and interacting with programmes written in other languages.
- The Library has received updated content in the OnePro database. https://onepetro.org/journals. This database furnishes registered researchers and faculty members with information on the oil and gas exploration and production industry.
- The Library has received an update of its Scopus Database with the new content.
https://www.scopus.com/home.uri. This database provides registered faculty members and researchers with the most extensive abstracts and cited databases on peer-reviewed literature and information materials across disciplines.
- The Library has received updated content on the AGORA database. https://www.fao.org/agora/en/. This database furnishes registered researchers and University staff with information materials, journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centred on agriculture and its related disciplines.
Supplementary Information:
The Library is a repository for diverse information. Donald E. U. Ekong Library is rich in physical and digital resources that can benefit students, researchers, and staff within the university community and beyond.
