DONALD E.U. EKONG LIBRARY WEEKLY REPORT
Monday 7TH October – Friday 11TH October, 2024

  1. On Thursday, 10th October 2024, the office of the University Librarian received a donation of two copies of the 2022 Journal of Science, Vol. 9, Nos 1 & 2 by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIPORT Branch.
  2. On Wednesday, October 9th, 2024, the American Corner, Port Harcourt, conducted the Education-USA orientation program. The program attracted participants from the University of Port Harcourt and neighbouring communities. It provided guidance and instruction on undergraduate and postgraduate admission processes and scholarship opportunities in the United States.
  3. One hundred and sixty-three (163) researchers and students from different faculties utilized American Corner resources during the week under review.
  4. The weekly statistics of the patronage of Donald E.U. Ekong Library and the affiliated centres show an increase of 11.2% from the previous week’s two thousand, eight hundred and thirty-two (2,832) to three thousand, one hundred and forty-eight (3,148) recorded in the current week.
  5. The Library maintained two (2) shifts, which ran from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Monday through Friday and a single shift from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturday.
  6. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for Postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the e-resources of the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the second floor of the Library has internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
  7. The Library has received updated content from the AGORA database (https://www.fao.org/agora/en/). This database furnishes registered researchers and students with information from journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centered on agriculture and its related disciplines.
  8. The Library has also received updated content from the BioOne database (https://bioone.org/). This database provides registered researchers and students with information materials, journals, and multimedia collections related to biological sciences and related disciplines.
  9. The Library has also greatly benefited from the updated contents of the AJOL database (https://www.ajol.info/index.php/ajol). This database is credited as one of the world’s most extensive databases housing peer-viewed African-published scholarly works in various disciplines for registered researchers and staff.
  10. The Library has the ProQuest electronic database. ProQuest powers research with unique content in academic, corporate, government, public, and school libraries worldwide. The database is accessible through the electronic database on the Library website. Users may visit the Library for access details.
  11. The Library has acquired MatLab. The MaTrics Laboratory (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that indicates matric manipulating and plotting functions-abc data, implementing algorithms, creating users, and interacting with programs written in other languages.
