DONALD EKONG LIBRARY WEEKLY REPORT
Monday 20th – Friday 24th November 2023

  1. The American Corner, Port Harcourt, organized the Education USA Orientation program on Monday, November 20th, 2023. The program provided valuable insights and opportunities to participants interested in pursuing education in the United States of America.One hundred and fifty-three (153) participants attended the program from the Departments of English Studies, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Library and Information Science, Nursing, Pharmacy, Music, Theatre and Film Studies, Mathematics and Statistics, and Economics.
  1. On Monday, November 20th, 2023, the University Librarian, Dr. Helen U. Emasealu, received the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team that visited to accredit the Department of Environmental Education, Faculty of Education program. The Library’s collections, which support teaching, learning, and research, impressed the team. The team also commended the library’s overall operations.
  1. The University Librarian, Dr. Helen Emasealu, On Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, received the following book donations for library retention. 
  • The World and the Recent Economic Meltdown: Nigeria as a Case Study by Chidi Okeke & Linda Omolehinwa (2 copies).
  • Law & Practice of University Governance in Nigeria: In Honour of Prof. Sabun Adejimin Adesanya (2 copies).
  1. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduates) and the Research Commons (for postgraduates) sections on the first floor of the Library are open to those who wish to access the Library’s electronic resources using the ICT facilities (Computers and Internet) in the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is open to faculty members.
  1. The Library received an update on its National Virtual Library Database, https://virtuall.nln.gov.ng/ This is an online multi-disciplinary digital library by the National Universities Commission whose principal aim is to provide researchers with information in their different disciplines for their research.
  1. Weekly statistics of the patronage of Donald Ekong Library showed a 3.56% increase from 1,793 users in the previous week to 1,957 users in the current week.
