DONALD EKONG LIBRARY BI-WEEKLY REPORT
Monday 26th February – Friday 1st March 2024
- The American Corner, Port Harcourt, carried out the Education-USA programme on Wednesday, 28th February 2024 at the University of Port Harcourt. The programme provided information to participants on undergraduate and postgraduate admission processes and scholarship opportunities in the United States of America. The programme attracted participants from the University and neighbouring communities. Thirty-six (36) participants attended the program from the Faculty of Education, Science, Management Sciences, and School of Science Laboratory Technology.
- One Hundred and Fifty-Three (153) researchers patronized the American Corner in the week under review. They were from the Faculties of Engineering, Sciences, Media and Communication Studies, Computing, Education, Law, Social Science and Basic Medical Sciences.
- The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduates) and the Research Commons (for postgraduates) sections on the first floor of the Library are open to those who wish to access the Library’s electronic resources using the ICT facilities (Computers and Internet) in the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is open to faculty members.
- The Library has received the update of its Springer Link Database with the new content. https://www.springernature.com/g The database provides registered faculty members and researchers with millions of journals, books, works, and proceedings for all disciplines.
- The Library has received an update of its OnePetro Database with the new content.
https://onepetro.org/journals The database provides registered Faculty members and researchers with information on the oil and gas exploration and production industry.
- Weekly statistics of the patronage of Donald Ekong Library showed a 12% decrease from 6,237 users in the previous week to 5,483 users in the current week. This trend is due to the nationwide protest rally declared by the National Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday and Thursday.
