Prof. Helen Uzoezi Emasealu (CLN)
The University Librarian
Prof. Helen U. Emasealu is the 6th University Librarian of the University of Port Harcourt. She attended the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and obtained the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Russian Language in 1991, and both Masters and Doctorate degrees in Library and Information Science in 1998 and 2014 respectively.
In 2006, Prof. Emasealu joined the services of the University of Port Harcourt as an academic librarian in Donald Ekong Library, University of Port Harcourt. Between 2006 and 2019, she served as Faculty Librarian in the Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities; Reference Librarian, Donald Ekong Library; Research Librarian at the Institute of Petroleum Studies, College of Health Sciences Librarian, and Reader Services Librarian. She was the Acting Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Port Harcourt from 2019-2021. She was promoted to the rank of Reader in 2019.
Prof. Emasealu has served in various capacities within and outside the University. She initiated the documentation of critical library information materials, while she was Reader Services Librarian. She is an Associate, Mortenson Centre, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA; and a recipient of 2019 Susan Schnuer Leadership Capacity Award. She is a Director, American Corner, University of Port Harcourt; Chartered Librarian, Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria; Member, Nigerian Library Association; Member, American Library Association; and Member, IFLA Building Strong Library and Information Science Education (BSLISE) Working Group.
Prof. Emasealu is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. She is married to Prof. Emmanuel C. Emasealu of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Port Harcourt. The marriage is blessed with children.
