- Donald E. U. Ekong Library maintained two shifts, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

- Paschal Anyoha of the Federal University of Owerri arrived at 9:55 a.m. for the accreditation of the programme in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Development Studies.

- During the week, the Annual Nigeria Library Association Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Rivers State Chapter held a two-day event from November 1 to 3, 2025, with the theme “Artificial Intelligence: Resolutions and the Future of Library and Information Services.” The conference took place at the Donald E. U. Ekong Library Exhibition Hall, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill, serving as the Chief Host, while the University Librarian, Prof. Helen U. Emasealu, was the Keynote Speaker. Emphasized in her address that artificial intelligence is not a disruption to librarianship but a continuation of the Profession’s long tradition and innovation. She highlighted how libraries have evolved from traditional cataloguing systems to digital platforms and now AI- driven services that enhanced knowledge access, research support, and service delivery. She further noted that the integration of AI into library operations strengthens efficiency, inclusiveness, and the capacity of libraries to better serve students, researchers, and the wider community.

- On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., the maiden edition of Window to China Magazine was officially launched, marking the conclusion of a month-long programme on Chinese cuisine, tourism, and agriculture. The event featured addresses by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill, and the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, with additional contributions from Dr. E. D. Oko-Jaja and cultural ambassador Jay Xu on China–Niger Delta cooperation.

The celebration also recognised the 2025 retirees, who were presented with gift items in appreciation of their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the growth of the library.

12th– 16th JANUARY, 2026
- On Monday, January 12, 2026, as students resumed academic activities, the Library commenced regular operations to support their academic needs.
- On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Library Management held its first meeting of the year at about 10:20 a.m. in the Office of the University Librarian, with the objective of planning and strategising with renewed focus on making greater impact on teaching, research, and learning. The meeting was chaired by the University Librarian, Prof. Helen U. Emasealu, and was attended by all management staff.
- On Friday, January 16, 2026, the Library held its annual prayer session. The session, conducted by Rev. Father Donatus Odinakachi, was organised to rededicate the Library, Management, staff, and patrons into God’s hands for guidance, protection, and greater achievements in the new year.

- On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Office of the University Librarian received five (5) copies of a book from Rev. Donatus Odinakachi Okeowhor titled Young People’s Companion. Donatus Odinakachi Okeowhor (2025). Nigeria: Aubaine Resources Limited.
- On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the University Librarian attended the Year One (new intake) orientation programme held at the New Convocation Arena, popularly known as the Nyesom Wike Convocation Arena. During the programme, the University Librarian addressed the students on the procedures for accessing the library, which include proper registration and the issuance of Library access cards. She further highlighted the various benefits and importance of the library in supporting academic learning, research, and the attainment of academic excellence.
- On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the University Librarian attended the opening ceremony of the new Graduate Studies Building Complex. The ceremony witnessed the official handover of the project by the contractor.
- Donald E. U. Ekong Library resumed two shifts, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
- The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilise the e-resources of the library. Similarly, the Elsevier Training Laboratory, located on the second floor of the library, offers internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
- The library has acquired MATLAB. The MaTrics Laboratory (MATLAB) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that includes matrix manipulating and plotting functions, implementing algorithms, creating users, and interacting with programmes written in other languages.
- The library has received updated content from the SpringerLink Database (https://www.springernature.com/gp). This data helps in the publication of robust and insightful research, supports the development of novel areas of knowledge, and makes information accessible globally.
- The weekly statistics indicated a 142.67% increase in patronage, with the number of users rising from 907 in the previous week to 2,201 in the current week.

- During the week, the Donald E. U. Ekong Library acquired daily issues of national newspapers to keep staff and students informed on local and global events. Titles received include: The Guardian, Daily Sun, Punch, Vanguard, Telegraph, Business Day, and This Day. These issues were made available at the Documents Unit of the Library.
