DONALD EKONG LIBRARY WEEKLY REPORT
Monday 9th – Friday 13th December 2024 

  1. On Monday, 9 December 2024, an accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor Benjamin Anele arrived at the University Librarian’s office, University of Port Harcourt, for the accreditation of the Sociology program of the University of Port Harcourt.
  2. On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, another accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor O. Yusuf-Habeeb came for the accreditation of the Economics program of the University.
  3. On Thursday, 12 December 2024, a team from NUC came to the Library to accredit the University’s accounting program.
  4. On Friday, 13 December 2024, a National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team led by Professor L. Olayide came to the Library for the accreditation of the University’s Pure Chemistry program.
  5. American Corner, Port Harcourt, anchored two (2) programs in the week under review: Ist Program: The first program was conducted on Monday, 9 December 2024, and it was tagged United against Corruption: Building a Bright Future Together. The program emphasized the adverse effects of corruption on society and discussed strategies to minimize them.

2nd Program: The second program, Up NEPA, was conducted on 11 December 2024,. In this program, the challenges of power supply in Nigeria were foregrounded, and its causes, effects, and possible solutions were also highlighted.

  1. The American Corner, Port Harcourt, received one hundred and five (105) students and researchers in the week under review.
  2. The weekly statistics portray a slight increase of 3.5% in library patronage from nine hundred and forty-two (942) recorded in the previous week to nine hundred and seventyfive (975) recorded in the current week.
  3. The two shifts, which ran from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturdays, were maintained. The Medical Library ran from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and a single shift from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
  4. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for Postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the eresources of the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the Library’s second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
  5. The Library has acquired MatLab. The MaTrics Laboratory (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that indicates matric manipulating and plotting functions-abc data, implementing algorithms, creating users, and interacting with programs written in other languages.
  6. The Library has received updated content in the OnePro database. https://onepetro.org/journals. This database furnishes registered researchers and faculty members with information on the oil and gas exploration and production industry.
  7. The Library has received an update of its Scopus Database with the new content.

  1. The Library has received updated content on the AGORA database. https://www.fao.org/agora/en/. This database furnishes registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centred on agriculture and its related disciplines.
