  1. On Monday, November 10, 2024, the office of the University Librarian received three copies of a journal titled Promoting Agricultural Research Vol.12 No 1 2024 from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension. 
  1. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, The University Librarian’s Office received five copies of a journal titled Research Method and Statistics in Education from Mary Rose Chinwe Mbanefo of the Faculty of Education. 
  1. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the office of the University Librarian received a book donation titled Herald of His Coming Vol. 81, No. 5 September/October 2022 (1 copy) and Herald of His Coming Vol. 82. No March 2 April 2023 (1 copy) from an organization known as Herald of His Coming. The University Librarian’s Office received two book donations on the same day: Research Institute of Language and Culture of Asia and Africa (ILCAA) from the Journal of Asia and Africa Research Studies and Fixed Migration Review  (1 copy) from Forced Migration. 
  1. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, American Corner, Port Harcourt, anchored the weekly Education-USA Orientation Programme, which recorded an impressive attendance drawn from students of various faculties in the University of Port Harcourt.
  1. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, a programme tagged Virtual University Showcase was held under the auspices of Carroll University, USA. The organisers laid emphasis on Virtual Universities. A cross-section of university students in Rivers State graced the programme.
  1. On Friday, November 15, 2024, American Corner, Port Harcourt, conducted a programme called Conversation with an Alum on the topic: Prevention of Viral Hepatitis: Types, Management, and Prevention. The programme was well attended.
  1. The statistics for the week indicate a decline of 0.9% in patronage from seven hundred and seventy-four (774) recorded last week to seven hundred and sixty-seven (767) recorded in the current week.
  1. The Central Library (Donald E.U Ekong Library) maintains two shifts from 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
  1. The Knowledge Commons (for undergraduate students) and the Research Commons (for postgraduate students) are accessible to students and researchers who wish to utilize the e-resources of the Library. Similarly, the Elsevier training laboratory on the Library’s second floor has internet access to all subscribed databases and is accessible to faculty members.
  1. The library has received updated content on the AGORA database. https://www.fao.org/agora/en/. This database furnishes registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centred on agriculture and its related disciplines.
  1. The library has also received updated content on the BioOne database. https://bioone.org/. This database provides registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, and multimedia collections on biological sciences and related disciplines.
  1. The library has also benefitted immensely from the updated contents on the AJOL database. https://www.ajol.info/index.php/ajol. This data is credited as one of the world’s largest databases housing peer-viewed African-published scholarly works in various disciplines for registered researchers and staff.

 

  1. The library has acquired MatLab. The MaTrics Laboratory (MatLab) is a proprietary multi-paradigm programming language and numeric computing environment that indicates matric manipulating and plotting functions-abc data, implementing algorithms, creating user, and interacting with programmes written in other languages.

  1. On Monday, November 18, 2024, the office of the University Librarian received a donation of nine (9) copies of books from the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and also two (2) copies of books from ASUU Journal of Humanities. The books are respectively listed thus:

  1. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, an accreditation team from National Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor Olukayo Ogunsanuro arrived at the University Librarian’s office of the University of Port Harcourt to accredit the Forest and Wildlife programme of the University.
  1. On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the office of the University Librarian received a total of thirty-one (31) books from the Director of Academic Affairs of the University of Port Harcourt. The books received are as follows:

      • On the same day (Wednesday, November 20, 2024), an accreditation team from Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) led by Professor James Ihemeje arrived at the University Librarian’s Office to accredit the Banking and Finance programme of the University.
  1. On Friday, November 22, 2024, the NUC Accreditation team for the Fisheries programme of the University visited the Library.
  1. American Corner, Port Harcourt, hosted the following programmes, which drew attendance from a cross-section of students at the host university and students from other learning institutions.
      • The first programme, Entrepreneurs as Change-makers: Identifying Opportunities for Sustainable Innovation, was held on Monday, November 18, 2024. The programme explored opportunities for sustainable innovation and how entrepreneurs can act as catalysts for change. It recorded an impressive attendance.
      • On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, another programme titled Sustainable Business Models: Creating Impact While Generating Profit was held. The programme highlighted integrating sustainability into business models to create long-term value while achieving profitability.
      • On Wednesday, November 19, 2024, the weekly Education-USA programme was anchored in American Corner, Port Harcourt. This week’s session focused on Innovation in Green Technology and Renewable Energy. The programme allowed discussions on green technology and renewable energy advancements to address global environmental challenges.
      • On Thursday, November 20, 2024, a programme was held with the morning session titled Speak with A Diplomat: My Experience as A Diplomat in Nigeria by Stevens, Consul General, United States Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria. The afternoon session of the programme was titled Rethinking Supply Chains: Reducing Waste and Improving Resource Efficiency.
      • On Friday, November 22, 2024, the last programme for the week under review was conducted. The programme was Financing Sustainable Business Innovation: Navigating Grants, Investments, and Crowdfunding. It highlighted financial strategies for sustainable innovation, focusing on grants, investments, and crowdfunding.
  1. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Dr. Jeremiah Ugwuelebo, Head of the Department of Medical Library and a representative of the University Librarian in the Medical Library, received the accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to assess the collections of the Library. Professor Mary Ofilla led the NUC team.
  1. The weekly statistics portray a 20.4% decline in library patronage from seven hundred and sixty-seven (767) recorded in the previous week to six hundred and ten (610) recorded in the current week.
  1. The two shifts, which run from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays and 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturdays, were maintained. The Medical Library runs from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and a single shift from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
  1.   1. The Library has received an update of its Scopus Database with the new content. https://www.scopus.com/home.uri. This database provides registered faculty members and researchers with the most extensive abstracts and cited databases on peer-reviewed literature and information materials across disciplines.
  1. The Library has received updated content on the AGORA database. https://www.fao.org/agora/en/. This database furnishes registered researchers and staff with information materials, journals, audio-visual materials, and other collections centred on agriculture and its related disciplines.

Supplementary Information:
